Two Wizard Rock Events
The last week has brought news on not one, but two major events in the Wizard Rock world. And not even a month after the legendary WRockstock.
First up, Harry and the Potters have released word on the much anticipated Yule Ball. The evening of WRock goodness has been expanded this year from one night to two! Here’s the skinny.
Night One of the Ball will be held at the Brandeis University’s Levin Ballroom, located at 415 South Street, Waltham, MA 02454. Doors will be at 7PM and there will be a $10 cover charge ($5 for kids under 12). The show will be all ages (duh!) and will be opened to non-students. The evening will feature the following performers,
Harry and the Potters
Jason Anderson and the Best
the Whomping Willows
Potter Puppet Pals
Justin Finch-Fletchley and the Sugar Quills
As a side note, why am I not really surprised that the only non WRock act of the night is a guy who’s recorded for K Records? Oh yeah, because all WRock kids are K fans just waiting to bloom. (seriously, go buy some albums on K)
(no seriously! you’ll thank me later)
Night Two of the Ball will be a return to old haunts as the event returns, for its third year, to the Middle East Downstairs, located at 480 Mass Ave, Central Square, Cambridge, MA. Doors will be at 5PM and there will be a $12 cover charge (three of those dollars go to the Harry Potter Alliance). According the the Potters this event WILL sell out, so get your tickets on November 12th when they go on sale.
Wait a minute. That’s today! Well that’s what is on the Potters myspace page, but the Middle East is showing November 15th as the sale date. Keep an eye on the calendar and I’ll update with any info I get.
Anyways, performers for this night will be as follows,
Harry and the Potters
Draco and the Malfoys
Uncle Monsterface
Math the Band
Remus and the Lupins
and special guests!
And after getting harassed before by a certain California based werewolf, I just want to point out that I did double check that I had the right Lupins this time. If it is wrong, it is the Potters fault, not mine.
So that’s your holiday lined up for you. Now, what do we have for summer? How about the weekend after a certain geek’s birthday?
Why, the goblins behind Magus ‘08 have you all taken care of.
Showing the lovely DIY attitude that makes WRock so great (and reminds me of K Records *cough**cough*) these goblins decided to stop wishing for a local fest and created one of their own. This week they announced dates for the inaugural event.
June 20th through the 22nd will find Magus 2008 being born in the hills of West Virginia, just east of Morgantown. The site for the fest will be Chestnut Ridge Park. Fans who are definitely going to attend the event are being asked to drop a line at magusgoblins@gmail.com. The more people who attend the event, the lower the ticket prices will be.
Performers for the event so far include,
The Blibbering Humdingers
The Chinese Chomping Cabbages
The Cruciatus Curse
Dumbledore’s Army
The Grey Ladies
Justin Finch-Fletchley and the Sugar Quills
Snidget
The Sugar Quills
Tonks and the Aurors
Anyone event remotely close to Morgantown, WV really needs to be at this show. Having been an attendee at more then a couple of shows in WV, including a few festivals, there is something about those hills. It is an old magic and it results in one hell of a good time. Don’t miss this one!
OK, that’s all the news that’s fit to print at the moment. As always, feel free to drop me a line with comments or show tips, my email is in the side bar. Have a good night.
